About Naran-Kaghan tours

Naran and the Kaghan valley are the workhorse of Pakistani domestic tourism — close enough to Islamabad for a three-day trip, high enough for alpine lakes and snow patches into early summer. The route runs through Balakot and Kiwai up the Kunhar river, with Shogran and Siri Paye meadows as the classic first detour. Naran town itself is the base: a strip of hotels, barbecue restaurants, and jeep stands that swells enormously in season. The centrepiece is Lake Saif ul Malook, reached by a short jeep ride from Naran — go at dawn if your operator offers it, before the boats and crowds arrive. Longer itineraries continue north past Batakundi and Lulusar Lake to Babusar Top at 4,173 metres, the pass that links Kaghan to Chilas and the Karakoram Highway; it typically opens late June and closes by October. Trout fishing, the walk to Lalazar meadows, and horseback rides fill out most schedules. Because the valley is so accessible, it is also the most price-competitive circuit in the country: weekend group departures from Lahore and Islamabad run year-round outside deep winter, and three-day packages start cheaper than anywhere else in the north. The flip side is July–August crowding — book weekday departures if you can, and check whether Babusar Top is included or weather-dependent.
