Best Time to Visit Skardu: Month-by-Month
Skardu is not a one-season destination — the valley you get in May is completely different from the one in September. Here is the honest month-by-month picture.
| Month | Weather | Crowds | Prices | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| April | Cold, blossoms | Low | Low | Beautiful, some closures |
| May | Mild | Building | Mid | Great all-rounder |
| June | Warm | High | High | Peak starts, book early |
| July | Warm | Highest | Highest | Deosai fully open |
| August | Warm | High | High | Best for Deosai plains |
| September | Cool, golden | Falling | Mid | The photographer's month |
| October | Cold, autumn | Low | Low | Stunning, short days |
| Nov–Mar | Harsh winter | Minimal | Lowest | By air only, for the brave |
The two best windows
Late May to mid-June gets you open roads, full services, and prices a notch below peak. September trades a little warmth for golden poplars, clear skies, and thinner crowds — most repeat visitors quietly prefer it.
Deosai changes the calculation
If Deosai National Park is the point of your trip, you are locked to July–September; the plateau is snowbound the rest of the year. Check that your tour actually includes Deosai rather than listing it as "optional subject to weather" — that phrase usually means an extra charge.
Booking timing
For June and July departures, book three to four weeks out; group seats genuinely sell out. For September, two weeks is usually fine, and last-minute prices occasionally dip as operators fill remaining seats.
