Fairy Meadows is the most dramatic short trek in Pakistan: a grass plateau at 3,300 metres staring straight at the Raikot face of Nanga Parbat, the ninth-highest mountain on earth. Getting there is half the story. Tours drive the Karakoram Highway to Raikot Bridge, transfer to local jeeps for a famously narrow cliff-side track to Tattu village, then walk — a 5–7 kilometre trail climbing roughly 600 metres that takes two to three hours at a sensible pace. Ponies and porters are available at Tattu for those who want them. Accommodation is wooden huts and camps on the meadow itself; nights are cold all year and electricity is generator-hours only. The standard add-on is the day hike toward Beyal Camp and the Nanga Parbat Base Camp viewpoint — further and harder than it looks at altitude, but the closest most non-mountaineers will ever stand to an 8,000-metre wall. Sunrise and starlight on the Raikot face are why photographers keep coming back.
